A letter to the community ...

Dear Battlefield 2142 Community,

We, the web sites signed below, have come to an agreement that based on excessive delays, unsatisfactory excuses, and a poor communication EA and its partners; Gamespy, a division of IGN, and Dice, a division of EA, are not planning, nor ever have planned, to release a method for the public to retrieve stats for Battlefield 2142.

While we have already pleaded and begged with EA/DICE/IGN for the release of stats data, they have shown little to no real interest or intent to work with us. At this point, we can do nothing but turn to you, the Battlefield community, to tell our story. We do this so you know that the lack of stats is by no means for a lack of want.

While we hope we have wildly misconstrued events, we believe that EA has never planned to provide stats, and all press releases and/or emails to the contrary were attempts to placate the community until they were able to release their own EA branded stat site.

Yet, time and time again EA, Dice, and IGN were unable to provide sample data files or simply wouldn't. Our guess? There isn't really a feed to get sample data files from. Unsatisfactory Excuses We've been told, on multiple occasions, that the delay is being caused because of “performance concerns” with the data feed. For a system already tried and tested true from Battlefield 2, where did these mystical performance issues come from? After over a year of operation, this process should be smooth as a whistle. Regardless, where are the performance concerns when it comes to sites like EA's own stat site, or 2142-stats.com which ran, unblocked, for several months. How serious could these so called “performance issues” really be? Poor Communication While we think that what we've requested to be fair and simple, perhaps we are incorrect. If that were the case, then the least we would expect is prompt, regular communications about the progress of the project from EA/DICE/IGN. However, we've been ignored for months on end, and when we do get communications from the other side, they are simply regurgitations of the same “please, just wait it's not ready yet” story which has been spoon fed to the community leaders for months.

We publish this letter with the intention of explaining how hard we have tried to bring 2142 stats to the community through 3rd party providers. We wanted you all to know that we haven't given up, and that if there is to be any chance of 2142 stats happening, we're going to need your help to push EA, DICE and IGN into recognizing that there is a desire for this to happen.

I think this issue and how EA/DICE/IGN handles it, shows how "interested" (or lack of same) they are, in what the community is wishing for!!!

So sad that they aren't more into customer-relations!

What is being done with this letter? Simply posting it in the forums of each stat site will do no good.

I say you post a form e-mail and PR addresses for EA and Dice so the community can speak.

EA/Dice should take notice of a relative small company such as B.I.S! ( makers of Armed Assault)!
Their official forums are constantly informing the community(almost daily)! of what is happening with upcoming patchs - bug fixes etc etc!!!

eg everyone knows that the helo psyhics are wrong in Armed assault!!

community told to post the bugs etc- now just been released small video buy lead programmer of his work in progress of new helo flight pyshics!!
all to post comments on what they think on it so far!

prehaps they could take a leaf outta this relative small company compared to theirselves????

Are there any email addresses that we can send requests to? I think that if EA/Dice received concise emails stating a desire to have a real stats feed (not long rambling, complaint-ridden rants), they just might listen.

Well, the community once tried one thing when it didn't like the bf2 patch: a boycott.

How about sending a mail to EA suport like Manlaan write over at bf2player.

"While the message above was put together by the site leaders of the listed communities, I believe that we should also act as leaders and give direction to a way to show EA that the community stands together.

Originally, I was gonig to go the whole boycott/strike method, but for EA to see any effects of that, it would have to take place during the release of an expansion. A strike would only hurt the server providers, not EA.

So, instead, I'm going to go the contacting route.

First, if you're part of a clan or community, please spread this community letter around to them. The more people that are aware of it, the better. Either copy/paste or give a link. Both work equally, but spread the word.

Second, go to http://support.ea.com Click on the "Contact Us" tab. Sign in (I think its the same thing you sign into 2142 as). Choose PC and Battlefield 2142, Game Features and Information, Profiles and Stats. Enter a brief message along the lines of "Please release a stats feed to sites like bf2s, bf2player, bf2142tracker, and BF2142Stats.nl". Click Submit.

If you've already done something similar, but under a different category, please resubmit under the category listed above so EA can see the number of requests. Please dont submit more than once in this category though. If you haven't done it yet, please do so asap, as all the sites listed above are counting on you to tell EA what you want.

Regretfully, this isn't something our sites can do alone, so everyone get out and tell EA what you want. This is one of those times that everyones vote counts, so dont let us down. Show EA the community can stick together and with out the community, they have nothing but a subpar game."
