1.4 Patch - Out Now!

That's right, you heard me. Patch 1.4 is now available for download. Don't know all the sites as of yet, but it's appeared on EA's FTP server, aswell as Multiplay's FTP server.

XIII. UPDATE 1.40
=================

FEATURES

- Added a new map - Highway Tampa.
- Added an autosave to kit customisations. After you customise a kit and spawn in with that kit, the customisation will be automatically saved until you change it and spawn in again. Note that you must spawn in with a particular kit for it to be saved.
- Titans will now spawn up to two gunships per side
- Squad Leaders no longer have to resupply to re-equip destroyed drones

CHANGES

- Exploit Fix: hardcoded the time limits of Orbital and EMP strikes.
- RDX Shotgun now detonates RDX, Motion Mines, AP Mines with minimum of 2 rounds.
- Ported EU Assault Rifle changes to the Best Buy unlock as well.
- Fixed LMG Left/Right Recoil
- Revised EU Assault Rifle Recoil
- Increased Clark rate of fire to match Herzog
- Fixed PAC shotgun attachment recoil to match other Herzogs
- Further adjustment to Squad Leader drones to prevent them accidentally killing the Squad Leader when deployed
- Further fix to prevent "pod surfing". Note that some pod movement will still be possible and is an intended gameplay mechanic to allow the player to have some small choice of landing site and to access rooftops
- Smoke from the CM3-N Radar Grenade deploys more quickly. The Radar range has been slightly increased and endures for the duration of the smoke effect.
- The CM3-N Radar Grenade may now be resupplied.
- The screening effectiveness of all smoke grenades has been significantly improved.
- Adjusted Talon heat source position to improve Gunship missile balance.
- Beta Feedback: Fixed the placement of an AA gun on Highway Tampa
- Beta Feedback: Improved the visuals of the swimming pool on Highway Tampa

LOL this is halarious. in my previous post i said i was uninstalling 2142 if the patch didnt get here before i picked up Crysis. well Crysis wont be out till tomorrow, so i guess i will see you on the battlefield tonight.

So rooftops is OK. So why do ao many servers have a problem with it? Why not use tactics to beat them?

Yes it is, so I have the file I click, i wait, I wait, it dies.

Maybe the CD has to be in the drive? NO, do I have to use the stupid EA download manager (When did that change name?) NO.........

The stupid file dosen't work, I cant see BF 2142 in above stupid program, i'm thinking, OK so EA dosent want it's customers to play the games they paid for, can this be true??

Ok, assuming that the file was corrupt in some way I downloaded from another source, same thing it will not install, it does however start 2 instances of BF2142_update.... in the taskmanager and then quietly dies, no errorcode no nothing but BAD temper from me.......

because people are not just getting on the few rooftops designed to allow you to land on it, they are literally flying them around like mini gunships. also the movement of the pod was designed to be about 2-3 feet of movement, not go anywhere on the map you want.

if you notice most of the building were desinged so you can not get on top of them because an awning or something else blocks the beacon.

being on the roof is not the issue, being on any roof any where is.

Now, when my transport is getting hammered by something, I pod out, and drop straight down with no control at all, and the flaming wreck of the transport drops on my head and I die. Also, the PAC gunship missiles go absolutely batshit crazy when fired at the EU transport, it's like watching someone trying to use an etch-a-sketch during an earthquake. All in all, 1 step forward, 2 steps back. What is great though is that more people are using the shotgun, making them much easier targets for me at long range. Or at any range, for that matter.

I D/L the patch from hypernia today. Got home and install to see patch v1.25!!!! Got it from official link from ea site. Arg!! EA can't even do a patch web release without "bugs"! EA Downloader doesn't do patching.... Man I wish this was a VALVE run game.

I'm not seeing a patch in http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/patches/BF2142/1.40/
except for a server-side path and a linus patch. Perhaps they pulled the client-side patch?

Decided to hop into some quick games after all. Might as well try the new map.

Surprizingly, I haven't lost the touch much. Played 3 games, got two gold stars, blew up two Titan consoles and all my squadmates had a mic.

The game where I didn't get the gold star, was on a 100% n00b team: two squads, not one has given any orders, no commander, no VoIP available, and everyone and their mother hopped on defense before the shields even came close to failure. I was the only guy trying to cap silos and attacking the enemy Titan.

As per deaf-mute syndrome symptoms, yelling in all caps repeatedly over team chat did zero effect.

Not really:

Pod surfing has gone aswell as screwing up the pods from transporters (it's all straight down now)
The clark is faster but nothing special
The new map (Highway Tampa) is big and well boring
The kit save feature is very hit and miss, it saves a kit just not the one you were using.

And to top it all off, and such along wait many of the original bugs still exist aswell as adding new one along with the new features.

After due deliberation, I conclude that the 1.40 patch is arguably the worst one to have been published so far.

Kit saving is utterly, completely broken. It doesn't really save your kit - it just gives you unlocks at random no matter what you did last time. The game loves to auto-equip my assault with the smoke nades, my engie with the SAAW 86 and my recon with the Zeller rifle. Problem: I NEVER USE THE ZELLER RIFLE, DUMBASS.

Next, pod surfing has not been solved at all. In fact, it seems that people are that much more hellbent on breaking pod movement than ever. Almost every round, I am guaranteed to see pod surfers virtually everywhere on the map.

Finally, server stability is at its worst. Worse even than back during patch 1.10. I do on average 1.5 rounds per server before it crashes.

I'm sorry. It's just no longer fun. I'd rather play Big Rigs at this point, to be really honest.

more and worser podsurfers than EVER
clark has been to overpowered (ever saw a shotgn shooting that fast )
as i play a lot of sniper, it seems like sometimes the bullets won't hit, same with the PAC walker, i shoot at a guy, see the bullets hit him, but not the sign that i hit him, so i shoot 20 maybe 50 main turret plasma bullets in him, to only see him getting killed by a sniper.....

I dont care about podsurfing, exploits, or anything
I just want to be able to play the game

Does anyone have the problem with the 1.40 installer just looping over and over?

Also when it finally does get done, game are barely playable... I get "there is a problem with your connection" every 3-5 minutes and it pauses for 5 seconds

i hate to tell you this, but uninstall everything then reinstall everything in this order...
